New Email Virus

This is what we found out about the Conficker virus that is supposedly
sopposed to hit us, so be aware! Just FYI!
Forward this to whomever you know that has Myspace and Facebook!

Ladies and Gentlemen,

This is simply a public service announcement, I am sure your IT staff is
fully aware of this situation.

A new modified virus called Conficker or Downadup, is rumored to be sent out
en masse on April 1st. The most likely method is for it to be sent out as an
email link from a person you know well, or from a social networking domain
that you know well, like facebook.com, or myspace.com. The hackers may also
send internal emails in myspace or facebook, so that it looks like a real
email from a friend inside those sites saying something like "HAHAHA check
out this funny video". If you click on the link inside that email it will
attempt to infect your machine.

Microsoft has offered 3 things you can do to prevent this from occurring.
First, be aware when clicking on links inside emails especially if it points
to a site that you do not recognize. Second, make sure you have the latest
Microsoft patches. Microsoft issued a patch for the vulnerability that
Conficker exploits back on October 23rd of last year. Third, make sure you
have anti-virus software installed and that it has the March updates.
